Disk Not Populating Patient’s Name
If you are trying to burn a disk and the patient’s name does not burn on the disk properly, check these settings to see if it is configured properly:
Click the Configure button, then go under the “Records Fields” tab. Make sure “PatientName” is checkmarked and press Apply.
Go to the General Tab, then click the link “Templates Directory” at the bottom. Double click to open the file “DefaultTemplate”
Double click the CD picture. Find the tag {PatientsName1} and change it to {PatientName1} removing the “s”. There should not be any tags with an “s” after Patient.
Repeat this process with the Multi-StudyTemplate within the Templates directory.
Burn Multiple Patients on Disc
By default your TeleRay application will only burn one patient, including all of their studies, per disc. If you would like to burn multiple patients onto a disc you must change the settings to allow this.
Click on Configure within your TeleRay product. Select the tab “Media” on top.
Click the bubble “Allow Multiple Patients and Studies Per Media”.
Epson Burner is Not Working
If you are unable to burn discs with TeleRay, here are some steps to try and fix it:
To check if your Epson is functioning properly with TeleRay, open up Configure in TeleRay and click the tab “Epson”. If you see no error messages and “Enable Verification” box is checked, then the Epson is functioning correctly. If you see any error messages or the “Enable Verification” box is unchecked, then there is likely an issue. Check to see if the Epson is working after trying each of these steps:
- Make sure you are using the proper USB cord. If the USB cable has a blue connector, it is a USB 3.0 cable and must be plugged into a blue USB 3.0 port. USB 2.0 cables are not blue and can be plugged into any USB port.
- Try restarting your PC
- Go to the start menu and click “Devices and Printers”. Make sure your Epson is listed and selected as the default printer. To set it as default, right click the Epson and select the box “Set as default printer”.
- Unplug the Epson USB cable, power down the Epson, power up the Epson, wait until the green light is solid, then plug the USB cord back into the same port as before.
- Unplug the Epson USB cable, power down the Epson, power up the Epson, wait until the green light is solid, then plug the USB cord into a different USB port.
- Go to “Computer” then “Uninstall or change a program”, select TeleRay, then click “Repair” on top of the page.
- Unplug your Epson. Go to the start menu and click “Devices and Printers”. Right click your Epson and select “Remove Device”. Open the Start Menu, All Programs, EPSON Total Disk Maker, then click EPSON Total Disk Setup. Right click your Epson and select “Remove”. Plug your Epson back in, wait about 2 minutes, then restart your PC.
- Go to the start menu and under the folder “EPSON TD Bridge” select “EPSON TD Bridge Environment Settings”. TD Bridge Startup Type should be set as “Automatic (when starting PC/service). Under “Default output device” make sure your Epson is selected. If you made any changes, press OK and restart your PC.
- Test burn a couple CD’s or DVD’s with the EPSON Total Disk Maker software. To do this, first open EPSON Total Disk Maker from the start menu. Select your default template. Click “Disc” on the top, and select either “Data CD” or “Data DVD” depending on what discs you have inside your Epson. Double click your selection. Then drag some random pictures or files to be burned onto the disc. Select “Publish” on the top of the screen, then press the “Publish” button on the next screen. You can then see the progress of the disc being burned by opening the EPSON Total Disc Monitor. Publish two discs, then restart your PC.
Switching to DVD
If you would like to switch to burning DVD’s, or if you have an Epson PP-100 and would like to burn both CD’s or DVD’s, follow these simple steps.
Launch TeleRay and click the icon Configure (Icon with the tools)
Click the tab “Media”. Under “Maximum Media Size” click the drop down menu and select the type of DVD’s you will be using. Press Ok.
You will then need to configure your Epson for DVD use. Open the Start Menu, All Programs, EPSON Total Disk Maker, then click EPSON Total Disk Setup.
Right click your Epson and select properties.
Change the Stacker 1 and Stacker 2 drop down lists to type of disc you want within them, then press ok.
Examples:
If you want to burn CD’s and DVD’s (CD’s for smaller studies, DVD’s for larger studies) You would insert only CD’s in stacker 1 and only DVD’s in stacker 2, then change the stacker drop down menu accordingly. The Epson will then only use DVD’s if the studies being burned exceed 700MB (The size of a CD)
If you have an Epson PP-50, you can only use one type of media. You would insert either all CD’s or all DVD’s in stacker 1 and 2. Also, you can use both CD’s and DVD’s, just by dividing the stackers. Stacker one can be set to CD’s and stacker 2 can be set to DVD’s. Then you can change the settings accordingly in the printer properties. This will allow you to use both CD’s and DVD’s.
If you would prefer to use only DVD’s, you would set both stacker 1 and stacker 2 to DVD’s.
NOTE: Epson only uses writable InkJet CD’s and DVD’s for printing labels. Using any other type of CD or DVD will cause the labels to smear.
Spanning Multiple Discs
TeleRay will automatically span studies onto multiple discs if they are too large to fit on just one.
If your patient’s studies are very large, it might take a while to burn using only CD’s. This is because the study will span onto as many CD’s as needed, which could be 5-10 CD’s depending on the amount of data being burned. If you plan on burning large studies, you should consider switching to DVD’s. If you have an Epson PP-100, you have the option of using both CD’s and DVD’s simultaneously.
Edit Studies
With TeleRay, you have the ability to view or edit studies with the built-in Viewer, before burning a disc.
Once you have loaded a study into TeleRay, you will see the patient listed within the box on the left. You can double click the patients name to load the viewer, or right click the patient and select “View Image”. This will load up all images within that patient’s studies.
You can also look through only specific studies at a time by pressing the + button and double clicking a study.

Save DICOM – This will only save files that you have Masked Data in. It will not save any other changes you have made to the image.
- Save DICOM Options
First select if you want to “Use Current Demographics”, “Edit Demographics”, or “Anonymize Study”. If you want all the images within the study you have selected to change, check the box “Apply To All Images in Study”
Import will add the masked studies into a new study within the study list on the left. It will not overwrite the original study.
Save To Disk will save the masked studies as a DICOM file to your computer.
Cancel Save will make no changes.
Changing Demographic Information
Changing demographic information within TeleRay is very simple, here’s how:
To change a patient’s information, simply click on the patient from the left field, and click on the information in the box you would like to change. If there is an “x” in the box, this means you are not allowed to edit that information.
As you click down the hierarchy of the patient studies, you will see that the tabs above the patient information will light up. You can then click these tabs “Patient” “Study” “Series” “Image” and edit their information accordingly.
Multiple Studies
TeleRay has the built-in ability to import DICOM or non-DICOM images from a CD, DVD, or a folder on your PC.
How To:
Open your TeleRay software and select the “Import Media” icon on the top left of the program. Select the folder within the CD or DVD that contains the images, or from a folder on your computer that contains the images.
Once selected, you must select the type of file you want to be imported from the folder.
Your options are .BMP, DICOM, .GIF, .JPG, JPG2000, .PNG, and .TIF.
If you would like to import the files as well as forward them to your PACS, then check “Forward After Import”.
You will then be shown the demographics screen where you can change the study information for each file. The only fields required for an import are “Last” and “ID” which can be a mix of characters or numbers.
If you are importing files from a patient already within you PACS system, you can import the demographics by clicking the button “Select PACS Study” and searching for the patient.

Troubleshooting PACS Connection
Your PACS settings can be found within your Configure settings under the tab “DICOM Device”. You can Add, Edit, or Delete your PACS connections here.
Unsuccessful Ping
This problem is caused by your PC not being able to see your PACS server on your network.
Check that you are connected to the same network as your PACS.
Confirm you have to correct IP Address and Port settings.
Unsuccessful Echo
This problem occurs by your PC not being able to communicate back and forth between your PACS.
This is usually a PACS side configuration issue by not allowing communication from the Nautilus PC. For an echo to be successful, the PACS server must be setup for both the static IP and AE-Title of the Nautilus PC to be allowed a connection.
It is also possible that it is a firewall or antivirus issue. Try disabling your firewall and antivirus settings to see if this is blocking your connection.
Paper Scanning Configuration Settings
To change the settings on your TeleRay software, press the Configure button and select the tab “Scanner” on top.
First select your scanner from the drop down menu.
Options –
“Create single DICOM file for multi-page scan” – This will combine all imported multi-page scans into one study.
“Create multiple DICOM file for multi-page scan” – This will separate all imported multi-page scans into multiple studies.
“Initiate scan when dialog is opened” – This will automatically trigger a scan when you click the scan button. Otherwise you need to manually trigger the scan.
“Apply processing to all frames option is default” – This will auto-default the option to apply changes to all frames.
“Show scanner acquire dialog” – With this enabled, you will be informed of the status of your scans in text format.
“Mask Color” – This is the default color of the rectangle used to mask image data.
“Text Color” – This is your default text color when editing images with text.
“File type” – JPG for Images. PNG for line art, text-heavy images, and images with few colors.
“Compression” – This will automatically compress scanned images. The higher the number, the higher the quality picture, but the bigger the file size.
Paper Scanning Driver Installation
For TeleRay to recognize a TWAIN compatible paper scanner, the drivers of the scanner must be installed prior to any scan attempt into the DICOM application. Once the drivers are installed and if necessary a computer reboot, open the TeleRay with admin rights and go to configurations. You will find configuration settings under the tab “Scanner”
For installation of your scanner’s drivers, please refer to it’s user manual and installation CD.

Editing CD/DVD Graphics
Launch TeleRay and click the icon Configure (Icon with the tools)
On the bottom of the page, click the link “Templates Directory”. Within the folder double click “DefaultTemplate”
This will launch your default graphics that currently appear on your CDs/DVDs. To change this template, double click the CD picture. This will launch your template editing tools.
There are many options in this editor to add pictures, add text, and move around text and other objects.
NOTE: Do not change the text within these brackets: {test}.
Once finished, exit the editor and save. You then need to load “Multi-StudyTemplate” and repeat the same process. To make this faster, it is possible to copy (ctrl-c) objects from the “DefaultTemplate” then open the “Multi-StudyTemplate” and paste (ctrl-v) them in. You can select multiple objects by holding down the ctrl key and selecting multiple objects.
Editing Fields on CD/DVD
If you would like to add custom fields to burn onto your CD/DVD follow these simple steps:
First launch TeleRay and click the icon Configure (Icon with the tools). Click on the tab “Record Fields”
You may select up to 10 fields at a time. Check the fields you may like to include on your CD/DVD. If something is not listed, you may click the “<>” button and search for all available fields.
NOTE:
These fields will automatically be enabled and will not appear on the check list under “Record Fields”:
VolumeLabel
CreationDate
StudyCount
PatientCount
Comment
MultiVolumeLabel
SubmitUser
Once you have selected the fields you want used on your disc, you need to add them onto your default CD/DVD templates.
To find out the proper syntax to enter in the Template Editor, press the button “Create Data File Template”. Save that and open the txt file. This file will give you all your current labels you can use in the Template Editor. Notice how each custom label has a number after it. These numbers need to be used when entered in your templates. If you are burning a disc with multiple patients or studies, you would increase the number value as needed. Example: {PatientName1} then {PatientName2}.
Click the tab “General” and on the bottom of the place click “Templates Directory”. In that folder click “default template”.
This will launch your default graphics that currently appear on your CDs/DVDs. To change your template, double click the CD picture. This will launch your template editing tools.
You can add/edit/move text anywhere you like on the CD template. If you want to insert data from a Patient Study onto the disk, you must use the proper syntax.
Example: If you want to write your patient’s birthday on the burned disk, you would need to have “PatientBirthDate” checked on “Record Fields” tab. Then under the template editor, you would need to insert a text box saying “Birthdate: {PatientBirthDate1}”. You must use the { } brackets to pull the data from the study.
Once finished, save the file and exit. You then need to load “Multi-StudyTemplate” and repeat the same process. To make this faster, it is possible to copy objects from the “DefaultTemplate” then open the “Multi-StudyTemplate” and paste them in.
Enable/Disable Comment Field
How to add user comments to your burned CDs/DVDs:
To enable comments onto your burned discs, start by opening AutoRay and click the icon Configure (Icon with the tools).
Under the “Media” tab check the box “Prompt for comment for manual create media”. Then press OK. This will load up a comment box when you select “Publish Disk” for manual burning.
To add the comments section to your disk template use the tag {Comment} in a text box. (This has already been added to your disk template by default)
